Place de l'Horloge

Historic sites and monuments

Nîmes

With its tower, rebuilt in the 18th century, it has set the pace of time in the center of town for the past five hundred years.

Jean Nicot was born here. This Nîmes native, who became ambassador to Lisbon in 1559, imported an herb first called "nicotiane" and then "tabac".
In 2003, the Place de l'Horloge was given a facelift. Paving, a fountain at ground level, synchronized lighting and multicolored light shows create a truly lively atmosphere.
