Charming typical Gard village
Heritage and History
Surrounded by garrigue vegetation, this village takes its name from the Occitan "roviera" (rouvraie, place planted with oaks), derived from the Latin "robur" (oak).
Château de La Rouvière
The château, though discreet, is a symbol of the village's rich history. Situated on a promontory, it dominates the surrounding area and bears witness to centuries gone by.
Prehistoric discovery
In June 2019, a Neolithic village was discovered by Inrap on the Puech de la Cabane site. Dating from 2500 BC, this site reveals dwellings, children's graves near the houses, and cellars dug out to store food. An exceptional find includes a menhir lying in a cellar.
