Bouillargues, a peaceful village in the Gard region, is a place where history and nature meet in harmony. Located near Nîmes, Bouillargues is a great place to discover its unique heritage.
History of Bouillargues
Bouillargues has its origins in the ancient Roman villa named Bulianicus, in honor of its owner Bublius. Becoming Bouillargues in 1706, the village was already a settlement in 1182, with estates such as Mas de Granier, Mas de la Fond, the hamlet of Massilan, and Ferme et puits de l'Olivier. These names gave rise to the four districts of Bouillargues. From 1560, the village suffered from the Wars of Religion, but thanks to its location and the clean northern air, it escaped the epidemics that ravaged the south of France. After the French Revolution, Bouillargues remained relatively unscathed, although unrest persisted around Nîmes.

Saint-Félix Church
Built in 1654, Saint-Félix church was enlarged in 1843 and completed in 1890. Consecrated in 1892, it was decorated in 1919. The chalice used for religious celebrations was donated by Empress Eugénie, wife of Napoleon III. The church is open daily from 9am to 6pm, except on Sundays after the service.
City Hall Park
The beautifully landscaped Parc de l'Hôtel de Ville contributes to Bouillargues' image as a village in bloom. Surrounded by centuries-old cedars, the town hall is at the heart of this park, accessible at all hours.
The municipal park features a fountain by sculptor Paule Pascal, who lived in Bouillargues for many years. Another statue by the same artist can be found in the Parc Blachère, which houses the Maison des Associations.
A new gymnasium, the "Agora", open for competitions, houses a handball court, a climbing wall and a dojo.
Le Vieux Lavoir
Bouillargues' old washhouse is a witness to daily life in the past. Once central to the social life of the village, it is now a point of historical interest.
